Replace, Repair, & Regenerate Tissue

Do you suffer from chronic pain? Tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, rotator cuff tears, and many other chronic pains are being successfully treated with Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Injection Therapy. This therapy utilizes your body’s own bio-active proteins to replace, repair, and regenerate tissue. PRP delivers these proteins directly to the site of your pain, thus increasing the concentration of platelets and delivering a powerful mixture of growth factors directly to injured tissue, and enhancing the body’s natural ability to heal. At Sage Integrative Medicine Clinic, our naturopathic doctors are successfully treating patients with sports injuries, joint pain, arthritis, and more with PRP Injection Therapy. Call our Edmonds clinic today to learn more or to schedule your appointment.

What is Platelet-Rich Plasma?

Plasma is the liquid portion of your blood and is primarily composed of water, but it also contains proteins, nutrients, and other elements that are distributed throughout your body. Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is a sample of your own plasma that is concentrated with platelets that are used for clotting along with white blood cells that are used for fighting infection. By drawing a small sample of your blood, our doctors are able to separate the red blood cells from the plasma, yielding a higher concentration of platelets and white blood cells — 5 to 7 times greater than normal. Once the sample has been separated, the platelet-rich plasma is injected back into the body at the site of the pain.

What to Expect After Your PRP Injection Procedure

Following your PRP Injection Therapy, you are likely to feel an achy soreness at the site of the injection. This, however, is a positive sign that a healing response has begun. You can expect the soreness to last for several days and gradually decrease as the tissues repair themselves.

Important Things to Remember

After your injections, it’s important to avoid taking anti-inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen, Naproxen, or Aspirin, as these can block the effects of the healing process. Tylenol, however, can be taken as needed for soreness, and elevation and ice is recommended. You will be permitted to resume normal day-to-day activities and light exercise after the injection, but strenuous lifting or high-level exercises should be avoided for several days after your treatment.

A Natural Alternative to Surgery

When you’re in pain, life comes to a standstill. At Sage Integrative Medicine Clinic, we want to get you back to your normal, day-to-day routine. With PRP Injection Therapy, you can enhance your body’s ability to heal itself and avoid invasive surgery altogether, and no surgery means no long-term use of medications, steroid injections, and more.
